VIA VERDE
Via Verde is an automatic and electronic payment system created in Portugal, initially to facilitate the collection of motorway tolls. The system uses radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, where an electronic device, called an identifier, is installed inside the vehicle, usually on the windscreen. When the vehicle passes a toll equipped with reading antennas, the system identifies the vehicle, automatically debits the corresponding amount and allows it to pass without having to stop.
Over time, Via Verde lane has expanded to parking payments, where you can pay automatically in participating car parks and parking meter zones without the need for tickets or coins.
Or payments for automatic car washes and even at entrances to parks and bridges.
Via Verde is operated by Brisa, one of Portugal’s main concessionaires, and is recognised as an innovative solution that combines efficiency, convenience and sustainability, helping to reduce congestion and environmental impact.
